May 23, 2020 Nick Engvall

When it comes to connecting and engaging with people (and potential customers!) on the internet, blogging is the perfect way to create more meaningful connections that establish long-term relationships that will inevitably lead to better engagement, conversion, and more sales. So, what is a blog? How do I even start? You’ve come to the right place. There are 3 Things You Need To Start A Blog that are most important. We will get into blogging platforms, content strategy, choosing blog topics, and many other ways that you can improve your blog. But for now, let’s start with the basics that you will need to begin your journey as a blogger.

1. Patience

First, it is important to set an expectation for yourself and anyone that might have expectations for turning your blog into a profitable adventure. Creating a blog is easy. Getting people to your website and reading your blog takes time and energy. That’s not to say that you won’t have some overnight successes but when it comes to blogging, being patient is the most important factor, whether we’re talking about the technical aspects of how to build your first blog or finding ways to increase the traffic to your blog through content marketing like email and social media.

2. Consistency

The most important thing when it comes to creating content on the internet is consistency. Think about the largest and most global media outlets over the past century. What is the one thing that they do more than anything else? The create content consistently. Whether it’s your favorite morning TV show, or the best television series, all the way down to the morning delivery of the newspaper, consistency is key. Before you start your blog, you should have a plan in place for what articles you will plan to publish. The most successful bloggers will plan for up to a month in advance or more, while at the very least, you should have a week’s worth of blog ideas planned out before you even get started.

3. WordPress

There are many content management systems out there for you to choose from, especially when it comes to blogging, but according to W3 Techs, over 36% of the internet is built on the WordPress platform. Why do we suggest WordPress? WordPress is hands down the best content management system (CMS) when it comes to Search Engine Optimization (SEO). In easier terms to understand, WordPress is going to make your website easier to find when people search Google. WordPress offers customizable layouts through the use of themes, customizable features through the use of plugins, and much more, all supported by a global community of developers and creators.
